Quintessential Mix #3

We periodically have exhibitions with only five artists work selected. This is the third such selection – another Quintessential Mix. Instead of being a singe work or three, the artists showing in these exhibitions can show a body of work. From 5-6 huge works, or many smaller works. Those who make 3D arts can show the work in additional cabinet spaces and that is what has happened here. Our ceramicist in this exhibition is showing FIFTY works.

The exhibition runs from 30 Oct through until 23 November and the five artists are two photographers (Mjay Mistry and John Thompson). Both in the Garden Room and both with a strong emphasis on black and white images. Very striking and very different from each other.

Along the bar (and extending into the Print Room where his studio is) Steve Davies is showing off his linocut (and occasionally woodcut) nudes. After a five day intensive life drawing class in August he has plenty of source material for his latest work.

Aish Magesh is the artist in what we call the ‘Cafe Gallery’ and has brought a lot of colour into the rather dull Autumn with her Indian folk art works. She also have a cabinet in the Print Room to display her handpainted wooden candle light holders. Very vibrant.

Bridget Aldridge, ceramicist, is someone whose work that the Alex’s owners have adnired in the past. When inviting her to take part in the current exhibition we had no clear idea of the range of work. From rugged raku to smooth luminescent saggar pots we have such a range of fabulous, often experimental work here. Spread throughout the show.

Prices of work range from £10! So please do take some time to come and browse. The next exhibition (last of the year) takes over on 27th November and will be a group show. A change of pace again.
