We usually have only Rugby based artists at the Alex (or those in surrounding village/towns). We wanted to be able to invite in some artists who have ‘left town’ or who have strong links to the town or the owners of the Alex, Chris and Steve. This is it – the By Invitation of the Alex event and its very fine indeed. Its also surprisingly local as although four of the five artists (Garima Dhawan, Joseph Ryan, Melissa Edwards and Ross Edwards) have never shown ANY work here before they all live in Rugby or not far beyond our usual 15 mile radius. The fifth artist on show Anita Davies left Rugby last year and has only exhibited a few of her works before. We hope for all of them this will be the start of an on-going connection to the place.
Ross already has a connection as a musician with the distinction of being the last musician to play here when it was the Alexandra Tavern (usually still called Arms) and the first to play here when it became Alexandra Arts. We hope we can work up something where he is playing against a backdrop of his art this month.
